About:

Lying on the eastern part of the Indochinese peninsula, Vietnam is a strip of land shaped like the letter "S”. China borders it to the north, Laos and Cambodia to the west, the East Sea to the east and the Pacific Ocean to the east and south. The country’s total length from north to south is 1,650km. Its width, stretching from east to west, is 600km at the widest point in the north, 400km in the south, and 50km at the narrowest part, in the centre, in Quang Binh Province. The coastline is 3,260km long and the inland border is 4,510km.

Vietnam has an age-long and special culture that is closely attached to the history of the formation and development of the nation.

Historians have shared a common view that Vietnam has got a fairly large cultural community that was formed around the first half of the first millenium before Christ and flourished in the middle of this millenium. That was Dong Son cultural community. This culture attained a degree of development higher than that of others at that time in the region and had its own characteristics but still bore the features of Southeast Asian culture because of the common South Asian racial root (Southern Mongoloid) and the water rice culture.

Over the past 75 years, the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV) has been in the vanguard of the struggle for national independence, liberating the country from almost a century of domination by western colonialists and leading the people to total victory in the 30-year resistance war against powerful aggressors. Since the country’s reunification, the CPV has led the Vietnamese people in carrying out the country’s renovation, modernization and industrialization.

PDD Documentary: India & ASEAN: Vietnam

Since the formal reunification of North and South Vietnam in 1976, the nation of Vietnam has been struggling to make a mark in the global front. This short film tells the story of Vietnam and its relationship with India. The friendship between the two nations saw its beginning during Pt. Jawaharlal Nehru’s time. This extended to the coming decades when India played a crucial role in the scientific and technological development of Vietnam. The Vietnam India Nuclear Research Centre was one of the biggest ventures in this endeavor. Researchers were trained at the Bhabha Atomic Research Centre, Mumbai, and a variety of equipment was gifted by India. The film also shows the cultural influences that India has on Vietnam.
