Celebration of 2nd IDY 2016 in Sweden

The Embassy of India in Stockholm in association with Yogobe, a local company which promotes Yoga, and Art of Living, Sweden, celebrated the Second International Day of Yoga on June 21 from 1800-2030 hrs at the heart of Stockholm at the Stockholm Waterfront Congress Centre, overlooking the iconic City Hall where the Noble prize banquets are held and the serene waters of Lake Mälaren. Well-known Swedish celebrity, dancer and singer Ms. Blossom Alexandra Liliana Tainton-Lindquist, a Yoga enthusiast herself, hosted the event which began with a broadcast of the message of Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the occasion of the 2nd International Day of Yoga. Ambassador Banashri Bose Harrison informed the audience of the rationale for India’s initiative to have the UN declare an International Day of Yoga. She told them that India wanted to share the invaluable gift of Yoga with the whole world family and to connect Yoga with its roots in India. As Prime Minister Modi had emphasized in his message, Yoga was not just a physical exercise but a way of life which created harmony between body, mind and spirit and, thereby, led to balance and clarity. The programme continued with guided Yoga sessions on the basis of the Common Yoga Protocol including different Asanas, Pranayams and Meditation. At the end of the Yoga session, Ambassador drew the lottery for two air tickets for travel to India which were sponsored by the Jet Airways. The event attracted a huge and diverse crowd of Yoga enthusiasts numbering over 1200 from all walks of Sweden including from the Indian community. The massive turnout, unprecedented for a Yoga event, is a testimony to the growing popularity of Yoga in Sweden since the 1st IDY celebrations organized last year.
