India and Luxembourg are celebrating 75 years of diplomatic relations this year. The diplomatic relations between the two countries were established on 01 July 1948. The birth centenary year of renowned sculptor and Padma Bhushan Awardee Shri Amar Nath Sehgal ended in February 2023. Sehgal represents the strong bond of friendship and cultural connect between India and Luxembourg and has contributed significantly to the people-to-people ties. At the same time, India is celebrating Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsva.
2. As part of these celebrations, the Department of Posts, Govt. of India, and Post Luxembourg jointly issued commemorative stamps today. The Indian stamp has been designed by Mr. Anuj Zood and the Luxembourg stamp has been designed by Ms. Anne Mélan. The sculpture of artist Sehgal - ‘Friends’ - a beautiful example of artist’s close relationship and friendship with Luxembourg, is the design of Indian stamp. The sculpture - ‘Flute Player’ - another remarkable work of art from Sehgal representing the spirit of Lord Krishna, has been chosen by Luxembourg side as design for its stamp.
3. The Indian stamp was released by Shri Devusinh Chauhan, Minister of State for Communications in the gracious presence of Smt. Meenakashi Lekhi, Minister of State for External Affairs and Culture with and H.E. Ms. Peggy Frantzen, Ambassador of Grand Duchy of Luxembourg. A video message from H.E. Mr. Jean Asselborn, Minister for Foreign and European Affairs of Luxembourg, was played at the event. The stamp by Post Luxembourg was also released simultaneously in Luxembourg by Mrs. Isabelle Faber, DG Communication & Public Relations.
4. In her remarks, Smt. Lekhi highlighted the warm and friendly bilateral relations between India and Luxembourg, with cooperation extending to multilateral and international forums and a strong people-to-people connect that characterises the relationship. Paying rich tributes to Shri Amar Nath Sehgal, she underlined the significant contribution the artist made to the people-to-people ties between two countries.
5. Shri Devusinh Chauhan highlighted the role played by Department of Posts in strengthening relations with other countries by way of issuing of commemorative stamps on important occasions in cooperation with Ministry of External Affairs.
