On 14 April, Dr Ambedkar School of Sajókaza and Embassy of India, Budapest organized a joint event. Ambassador Rahul Chhabra was the Chief Guest at the event. Other distinguished guests included Mr. Istvan Vavrek, Mayor of Rimaszecs (Slovakia), Mr. Tibor Derdak, Director of Dr. Ambedkar School and Mr. Janos Orsos, leader of Jay Bhim Triratna, Buddhist Community. Ambassador with the Director of the school jointly inaugurated the exhibition on Dr. Ambedkar’s life, for which 32 framed photographs of Dr. Ambedkar were gifted by the Embassy, which would remain permanently in the school.

The celebration has been launched at the Indian Cultural Centre, Paramaribo by organizing an event on the eve of Dr. Ambedkar's Birthday on April 14, 2016. Mr. Samuel Polanen, the Chairman of Constitutional Review Committee, Republic of Suriname, was the Chief Guest on the occasion. Over 200 invitees, including academicians, students, representatives of Indian Associations and Cultural Organizations attended the event. An Essay and Quiz competition was announced. The entries close on 27th April, 2016. The second event would be in the first week of May when results will be announced and prizes distributed to the winning candidates.
The 125th birth Anniversary of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar was celebrated with zest and zeal by the students of the 10 Indian community schools in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, which cater to around 55,000 students.On this occasion the schools organised various educational programs including speeches, presentations, Essay writing competitions, Quiz competitions etc. The students highlighted the contribution made by Dr. B.R. Ambedkar as ‘Social Reformer’, ‘Economist’, ‘Jurist’ and ‘Philosopher’. The International Indian School, Dammam which has student strength of around 18,500 organized a skit to depict the discrimination faced by certain communities in India.
The 125th birth anniversary of Dr BR Ambedkar, was celebrated on 14 April 2016 at the Embassy of India, Muscat.
In his address, Ambassador of India to Sultanate of Oman, Indra Mani Pandey, underlined the commitment of the Government of India to promote the welfare of the disadvantaged section of Indian society through inclusive development for all.
Dr. Prabhakar Tijare, a member of Indian School Board, highlighted Dr. Ambedkar’s contribution to Indian society. Student speakers from Indian Schools in Muscat spoke on Babasaheb’s life and work, highlighting his outstanding contributions as a scholar, educationist, journalist, administrator, parliamentarian, and jurist. The celebration was attended by prominent members of Indian community in Oman, social workers, academics and media persons.
125th Birth Anniversary of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar was celebrated in the Embassy of India, Mexico City on 14th April 2016. On this occasion a Photo Exhibition of the pictures of Dr. Ambedkar was organized in the auditorium of the Embassy. The Photo Exhibition was inaugurated by Cd’A Shri Ashutosh Agrawal, who also presented floral tributes on the picture of Dr. Ambedkar. Shri M.R. Qureshi, Counsellor & Director of Gurudev Tagore Indian Cultural Centre spoke about the life and activities of Dr. Ambedkar. A documentary on the life of Dr. Ambedkar was also screened.
Celebration of 12Sth birth anniversary of Or Babasaheb Ambedkar High Commission of India celebrated 125th birth anniversary of Or Babasaheb Ambedkar at Amity International School, Erasmia, (Pretoria) on 14 April 2016. Shri Hitesh Rajpal, First Secretary participated in the event, on behalf of the High Commission of India. From Amity School, Principal, teachers and about 200 students attended the programme. The programme included singing of national anthems of South Africa and India; recalling the immense contribution of Dr Ambedkar in fighting for the rights of Dalits and downtrodden in India and his seminal role in shaping the Constitution of India as the Chairman of Drafting Committee
The High Commission of India, Abuja celebrated 125th Birth Anniversary of Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar at its premises on 14 April, 2016.The programme began with a speech by Acting High Commissioner, Shri Kaisar Alam. In his speech, he traced the life of Dr. Ambedkar, who went on to become a great legal luminary despite all odds.
Around 60-70 people including Indian community members and few Nigerian nationals were also present during the event.
The Embassy of India celebrated the 125th birth anniversary of Dr. B. R. Ambedkar on 14th April 2016 in association with various Indian schools based in Bahrain.
All the seven Indian schools, as part of week-long celebrations from 10-13 April 2016, conducted intra school competitions featuring quiz, skit, debates, poster-making etc. highlighting the role of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar as Chairman of Constitution Drafting Committee.
The Bahrain Indian School (managed by Bhartiya Vidhya Bhawan) also hosted an event to christen its school library on Dr. B.R. Ambedkar. The Ambassador of India inaugurated the Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Library and also unveiled a bust of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar made by Mr. Kamble, a local artist in Bahrain, which was placed at the main entrance of the library.
The Embassy celebrated the 125th birth anniversary of Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar at the Indian Cultural Centre (ICC) in Astana on 14th April, 2016. The celebration began with garlanding of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar’s photograph by Ambassador and lighting of lamp by Smt. Vandana Jain, Spouse of Ambassador. A short documentary on the life of Dr. Ambedkar and a slideshow of his photographs followed the lamplighting ceremony. This was followed by keynote address by Ambassador who welcomed all the guests and congratulated them on the occasion. He highlighted Dr. Ambedkar’s role in drafting of Indian Constitution and crusade for the rights of oppressed section of society. He concluded by saying that Dr. Ambedkar’s life, marked by courage and conviction, will always continue to inspire us.Among other speakers, Shri Atanu Rakshit, Assistant Professor, Nazarbayev University praised the role of Dr. Ambedkar in protecting rights of oppressed classes of society; Dr Prashant Jamwal, Assistant Professor, Nazarbayev University described Dr Ambedkar as a great visionary and Shri Alex Pappachen James, Associate Professor, Nazarbayev University described Dr. Ambedkar as a great crusader of rights of the oppressed. This was followed by a short quiz on Dr. B.R. Ambedkar .A display of books on Dr. Ambedkar was also organized.

The audience comprised mainly students from Koyasan University, as well as citizens from Koyasan, including their Mayor. There were also senior government officials from Wakayama Prefecture. All the speakers acknowledged and praised the seminal contribution of Dr. Ambedkar in the making of modern India.

Approximately 175 guests were present for the celebration. In her key note speech on the occasion the Ambassador highlighted the invaluable contributions made by Dr B R Ambedkar as the principal architect of the Indian Constitution and his role in uplifting the untouchables of India. The Vice Chairman appreciated the role of Dr B R Ambedkar in India’s progress and development, overcoming all challenges at that time.
Celebrating 125th Birth Anniversary of Dr. BR Ambedkar
Embassy of India, Beijing, organised an event celebrating the 125th birth anniversary of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar at the School of Foreign Languages, Peking University on 14th April, 2016. Ambassador Vijay Gokhale attended the event and addressed the gathering. In his remarks, he highlighted Dr. Ambedkar's fight for social justice, his belief in fighting for social justice through legal and constitutional means and adoption of 'non-violence' to attain his goal. He also emphasized that these principles of Dr. Ambedkar have been enshrined in the constitution of India and upheld by successive governments in India. Dean, School for Foreign Languages, Ms. Qi Ning also addressed the gathering and highlighted Dr. Ambedkar's outstanding contribution to world civilization.Professor Qiu Yonghui from the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (CASS) delivered a lecture on the life and work of Dr. Ambedkar with a special focus on social justice. This was followed by the screening of a documentary on the life of Dr. Ambedkar. This event was attended by more than 100 students and teachers of Peking University.

The programme included Inauguration and address by the Consul General, speech by the Guest Speaker Mr. Mangesh Dahiwale, ex-IRS and Chairman of Manuski Trust , Pune, speeches on Dr. Ambedkar’s contribution to women’s rights by Ms. Preeti Kadam – a lady representative of the organization and Ms. Arya Sonone , a class VIII student. Highlights of the speech by CG included the extensive rights guarantees, liberties provided by Dr. Ambedkar in his draft Constitution to both men and women. He added that Dr. Ambedkar remains an inspiration for millions of Indians and proponents of equality and social justice across the globe. The promotion of liberty, equality and fraternity by Dr. Ambedkar was further emphasized by Mr. Mangesh Dahiwale. Focus on protection of women’s rights enshrined in the Constitution were well enumerated by the female speakers. The event, with an attendance of over 400 people from across the different sections of the community, concluded with cultural events dramatizing.
The 125th Birth Anniversary of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar was celebrated in the Indian Embassy on 19th April, 2016. The event was attended by members of the Lao – India Friendship Association and prominent members of the local Indian community. A collage of the photographs of Babasaheb was displayed and received great interest from the audience. Ambassador Shri Ravi Shankar Aisola spoke on the life and times of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar. Dr. Khamphay Rasmy, Vice President of Lao – India Friendship Association talked about Babasaheb and India – Lao relations. Two prominent members of the local Indian community also spoke and paid their respects to the leader.
To mark the 125th Birth Anniversary of Dr. B R Ambedkar, the Indian Cultural Centre of the High Commission organised a lecture by renowned intellectual, scholar, writer, poet and media personality Mr Ibrahim Waheed 'Ogaru' on Thursday, 14th April 2016 in Maldives.
In his comprehensive and thought-provoking presentation, Mr Ogaru put the Indian Constitution in historical perspective and highlighted the unique features of the Constitution and the pivotal role played by Dr Bhim Rao Ambedkar as the Chairman of the Drafting Committee.
The High Commissioner, Shri Akhilesh Mishra, highlighted the significance of the Constitution in the life of the modern post-independence India which has emerged as one of the most vibrant economies and an exemplary pluralistic, democratic country despite several daunting challenges since independence.
The programme was well attended by over 100 people including Principals, teachers from different schools, Maldivian Government officials, entrepreneurs and local media organizations, members of Women’s Association of Maldives and Indian community besides officials of Indian High Commission.
The Consulate General of India, San Francisco, in association with the Indo-American Community in Bay Area of San Francisco, had celebrated the 125th Birthday of ‘Bharat Ratna Dr. B R Ambedkar on 14th April, 2016 (Thursday) at India Community Centre, Milpitas from 5-9 PM. Approximately 500-600 people representing several Indian- American Community Associations have participated in the event. In addition, many academics, social activists, local officials and the media persons have also attended the event.

The High Commission of India in Malaysia and the Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose Indian Cultural Centre (NSCBICC), Kuala Lumpur jointly celebrated the 125th Birth Anniversary of Dr. B R Ambedkar on Saturday, 16th April, 2016 at the NSCBICC. More than 200 people attended the event.
The programme included organising of an Essay Competition and Speech/Elocution Contest on 'The Life and Relevance of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar' as well as a Quiz Competition on 'India’s Freedom Movement'

Comemoration of the 125th Birth Anniversary of Dr B. R. Ambedkar at the Indian Cultural Center, CGI Sao Paulo on 14 April 2016. Floral tributes were offered and a lecture on the Life and Contribution of Dr Ambedkar in the Building of the Indian Nation was held on the occassion.
A function was organized at the Indian Embassy on 16th April 2016, to commemorate the 125th Birth Anniversary of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar. Professor Khaled Ikhiri, President of the National Commission for Human Rights of Niger, who was the Chief Guest, in his remarks said that, “Dr. Ambedkar’s fight was not only for Indians, but for the entire world”. He further said that “Dr. Ambedkar fought for human dignity so that justice prevails everywhere”.
The other distinguished invitees at the function included Mr. Benoit Thiery, Acting UN Coordinator for Niger, Mrs. Marcel Fadima, representing the Confederation of Promotion of Women in Niger, and Mr. Moussa Haro, Director General, Ministry of Culture, Govt. of Niger.
As part of the celebrations, Painting competition for children, and a Quiz competition for adults were also held on April 10th .Many Indian nationals and friends of India participated in the event enthusiastically.

The ceremony started with lighting the lamp in front of portrait of Dr. Ambedkar by the Indian staff of the Consulate followed by a speech on life of Dr. Ambedkar by Prof. A. Pitchaiya who is a well known and reputed Indian origin Professor at the University de la Reunion.
The event started by paying tribute to Dr. Ambedkar with flowers and lighting the lamp after which the audience was welcomed by Post In-Charge, Shri Sevanand Sudai. Mr. Gobalakrishnan, an Indian origin author and historian was invited to speak on Dr. Ambedkar who highlighted the struggles and achievements of Dr. Ambedkar's life and his contribution to the Indian Constitution.
A grand function was held last evening to commemorate the 125th Birth Anniversary of Babasaheb Ambedkar. The programme included a skit by the members of the local Maharashtra Mandal on the life of Dr. Ambedkar and a symposium on the “relevance of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar and his philosophy in the contemporary world”. The Chief Guest for the event was Speaker of the Kenyan National AssemblyH.E. Mr. Justin Muturi. Other Speakers included Deputy Chief Justice of the Kenyan Supreme Court, Lady Justice Kalpana Rawal; Judge of the Court of Appeal of Kenya Justice Alnashir Visram; Director of the Kenyan Law School Dr. PLO Lumumba; Deputy Governor of the Isiolo County H.E. Mr. Mohamed Guled and the summing up was done by Ambassador (Retd.) R. Swaminathan. Dr. Prakash Heda (a PIO from Nagpur) also rendered an Aadaranjali towards the end of the programme.
More than 350 guests attended the function and the audience included County Governors, lawyers and jurists, prominent members of the Indian-origin community, MFA officials, a large group of foreign Ambassadors (Argentina, Bangladesh, Sudan, Belgium, Mexico, Greece, Oman, Iran, Botswana, Angola and other senior diplomats from other countries) and media representatives.
125th Birth Anniversary of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar was celebrated in Birmingham and neighbouring cities enthusiastically. The main function was organised by CGI, Birmingham in association with Indian community on April 14, 2016 at Sandwell Council House. More than 150 guests including British dignitaries such as Mayor of Sandwell Cllr. Barbara Price, Col. George Marsh, Acting Lord-Lieutenant, and prominent members of Indian community, Consul General and CGI officials attended the function. During the event a photo exhibition on the life and times of Dr. Ambedkar was also organised.Before 14th April the local radio stations such as Raj FM, Ambur Radio and Gulshan Radio and Kanshi TV organised talk shows and panel discussions on the contribution of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar. In addition, Indian organisations such as Indian Workers' Association and Dr. Ambedkar Memorial Committee organised separate celebrations on April 16 and 17 at Coventry and Wolverhampton respectively in which members of Indian community and CGI officers participated.
The Embassy of India, Baku in association with the Azerbaijan University of Languages (AUL) celebrated the 125th Birth Anniversary of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar on 14th April, 2016 which was well attended by around 300 Azerbaijani students and overseas Indians. An essay writing competition on “Dr. B. R. Ambedkar, and his role in the making of the Indian Constitution and emancipation of women”was organized by the Mission for Azerbaijani and Indian students.
Dr. Ambedkar Jayanti Celebrations in Vienna, Austria
Embassy of India, Vienna celebrated the 125th birth anniversary of Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar on 14thApril, 2016. On this occasion a Quiz competition on the life of Dr. Ambedkar and the Indian Constitution was organized for the students in Vienna.
Followed by the quiz, Dr. Johanna Buss, an Indologist at the Institute of South Asian, Tibetan and Buddhists Studies, University of Vienna delivered a distinguished lecture on the life and works of Dr. Ambedkar. Members from Indian and Austrian community, Students and Embassy officials were present for the celebrations.

As part of commemoration of the 125th birth anniversary of Dr Babsaheb Ambedkar, a symposium on the “Making of the Indian Constitution: Seven Decades of Indian Experience” was organized by the Mission on March 28, 2016 in collaboration with the Centre for Study of Islam and Democracy in Tunisia.
Deputy Speaker of the Tunisian Parliament Mrs. Mehrezia Laabidi was the keynote speaker. Other speakers included Mr. Kamel Ben Younes, an eminent political analyst and Dr Radwan Masmoudi, President of Centre for the Study of Islam and Democracy, an influential think-tank in Tunisia involved in the constitution making process.
The event was attended by 50 prominent participants, mainly the Parliamentarians, lawyers, civil society organizations, journalists, lawyers’ syndicate, who were also involved in Tunisian constitution drafting, academics and think-tank organizations.
The Ambassador made a presentation on the drafting of the Indian constitution; contribution of Dr. Ambedkar in constitution making; conduct of Indian elections, how democratic traditions have taken root in India.

On this occasion, the Officers/Staff of the Consulate paid floral tributes on the photo of Dr. B. R.Ambedkar. Subsequently, a documentary film on the life of Dr. Bhim Rao Ambedkar was screened.
Dr. B. R. Ambedkar Jayanti celebration was organized on 20 April 2016 by the Indian Cultural Centre, Consulate General of india Bali in collaboration with Kulkul Foundation and Greenschool Bali. The function was attended by the students of Kulkul Community and Greenschool Bali, non teaching staff of Greenschool, and members of Global Balinese Woman Association.The Jayanti celebration began with meditation and chanting mantra led by ICC Yoga Teacher, Dr. Kaptan Singh. He appealed the gathering to stay together and practice the meditation and pray for the good life and good fortune of the universe. After meditation, the Consul General of India along with the President of Kulkul Foundation and Greenschool Bali, Mrs. Tirka Widanti and representative of Global Balinese Woman Association and students of Greenschool Bali paid floral tribute to DR. B.R Ambedkar .

The event started with the screening of excerpts from Dr. Ambedkar’s speech in the constituent Assembly. Cd’A Mr. A.B.B. Babu welcomed the guests and spoke about the life and vision of Dr. Ambedkar and the enduring spirit of Indian Constitution. Chief Guest Mr. Amr Shobaky, Former Parliamentarian and renowned constitutional expert spoke about the role played by Dr. Ambedkar as the architect of the Indian Constitution. He compared the Indian and Egyptian Constitutions, praising the Indian Constitution which continues to serve as a solid platform for the Indian Republic. This was followed by a Q&A session on Dr. Ambedkar and the Indian Constitution.
Winners of online Quiz on Dr. Ambedkar and Indian Constitution, conducted by the Embassy, were felicitated by the Chief Guest.
A well-attended film screening and seminar on the theme "Babasaheb Ambedkar - Conscience-keeper of Modern India" marked the celebration of his 125th birth anniversary in Seychelles. Several local dignitaries including Ministers, Chief Justice of the Supreme Court, President of the Court of Appeal, Judges and members of diplomatic corps were among the 100 invitees who attended the event at Kempinski Seychelles Resort in Mahé on 14 April 2016.
In his opening address, the High Commissioner recalled Dr Ambedkar’s contribution in carrying with him the dreams of millions of Indians. He added that the UN celebrating his 125th Birth Anniversary is the highest tribute that the world can bestow on this great humanist. In his address, Designated Minister Vincent Meriton (the senior most Cabinet Minister and the Minister in charge of Social Welfare & Community Development) noted Dr Ambedkar’s relevance in theSeychelles context.
Consulate General of India, Jeddah celebrated the 125th birthday of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar at the Consulate premises on 13th April 2016. The officials and staff of the Consulate as well as students and teachers from International Indian School, Jeddah attended the function. The teachers and students spoke about the life and achievements of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar. It was followed by screening of a documentary film which portrayed the immense significance of our constitution and the role of Dr. Ambedkar in the drafting of the constitution.
A special event to commemorate the 125th Birth Anniversary of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar was organised by the PMI New York on 13th April at UNHQ. This was the first such commemoration of Dr. Ambedkar at the UNHQ. Foundation for Human Horizon (US-based NGO with ECOSOC consultative Status) and KalpanaSaroj Foundation (India-based NGO by KalpanaSaroj,a Padmashree) were co-hosts of the event.
Ms. Helen Clark, Administrator of UNDP in the Keynote address spoke on the legacy of Dr. B.R Ambedkar. Hon’ble Speaker of Punjab Legislative Assembly, Mr. Charanjit Singh Atwal delivered special remarks. Mr. DeelipMhaske of Foundation for Human Horizon and Ms. KalpanaSaroj also addressed the gathering. Over 550 people, many from India and various parts of the world attended the event.

High Commission of India in Kingston, in coordination with the University of West Indies (UWI), Kingston organized an event at the Law Faculty Centre of the UWI on 14th April. Over 300 people, including Prime Minister, Foreign Minister, Education Minister, Members of Parliament, both from the Ruling and the Opposition parties, diplomats academia and prominent members of the Indian Diaspora participated in the event. The event was preceded by a cocktail reception organized by the High Commission. The Principal of UWI, Prof. Archibald Mc. Donald opened the event with his welcome speech, in which he termed Dr. Ambedkar a Champion of social justice and equality and emphasized that by following his ideas a real transformation could be effected worldwide, particularly among societies where there was still a sense of marginalisation among some sections of society. It was followed by High Commissioner’s speech on Dr. Ambedkar's life, his vision on the transformation of modern India and his outstanding achievements, followed by the Jamaican Prime Minister's inaugural remarks about Dr. Ambedkar's thoughts and his ideology. His speech dwelt at length on Dr. Ambedkar's reforms for the marginalised people in India and how they could be relevant in the context of Jamaica. The event was covered by the local electronic and print media.

In September 1983, President Nimeiri issued several decrees, known as the September Laws, which made the Sharia the law of the land. In November the People's Assembly approved without debate legislation to facilitate the implementation of the Sharia; therefore, the tendency of fundamentalism and radicalism increased in Sudan. In this scenario, few fanatics elements started to remove existing statues (The idol worship is against Sharia law) in Sudan. One night some unknown radical elements dismantle the platform of the bust and took away the bust from the original location. It is believed that after few weeks, the bust was found in the Nile River. Soon after, the bust was brought from the Nile and subsequently it was re-installed at the Chancery campus. The bust was moved to present chancery in 2011 due to reconstruction project of the old Chancery.

The speakers at the event included Consul General; Dr G. K. Harinath, OAM and Chairperson of Multicultural NSW; Dr Rajani Anand Luthra, Editor and Co-Founder of Indian Link magazine and Dr Kama Maclean, Associate Professor, School of Humanities and Languages, University of New South Wales.
Welcoming the audience, Consul General spoke about the life and contribution of Dr Ambedkar in socio- economic life of India. He also informed the audience that the bust of Dr Ambedkar gifted by India would soon be installed at the University of Western Sydney.
Dr Harinath delivered an insightful life sketch of Dr Ambedkar to the audience. Dr Rajni Luthra highlighted the contribution of Dr Ambedkar for women empowerment. Dr Kama Maclean summed it up by saying that a great personality of Dr Ambedkar cannot be described in just one word as a lawyer, an academic, an activist or architect of the Indian Constitution.
High Commission of India, Dhaka, in association with Bangladesh-India Friendship Society celebrated the 125th Birth Anniversary of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar, at CIRDAP International Auditorium today. On this occasion, High Commissioner of India Mr. Harsh Vardhan Shringla, Political Advisor to the Hon'ble Prime Minister of Bangladesh, H.E. Mr. H.T. Imam and Member, Law Commission of Bangladesh Prof. Dr. Shah Alam addressed the audience. President of the Bangladesh-India Friendship Society, Professor Emeritus Dr. A.K. Azad Chowdhury gave the vote of thanks. The dignitaries released the special issue of the High Commission of India's monthly magazine on Dr. B.R. Ambedkar during the function. Around 250 persons, including dignitaries and people from all other walks of life attended the function.
The Permanent Mission of India in Geneva on 14 April 2016 commemorated the 125th birth anniversary of Dr. Bhimrao Ramji Ambedkar at the prestigious venue of the headquarters of United Nations World Intellectual Property Organisation (WIPO). The event was organised in collaboration with the India Geneva Association.
Permanent Representative to the UN Office in Geneva, Shri. Ajit Kumar, in his opening address, highlighted the connection between Dr. Ambedkar’s Vision and the Sustainable Development Goals adopted by the UN to eliminate poverty, hunger and socio-economic inequality by 2030. Dr. Jaya Krishnakumar, a professor at the University of Geneva delivered the keynote address and highlighted the life and works of Dr. Ambedkar. Permanent Representative of India to WTO, Smt. Anjali Prasad and Permanent Representative of India to the Conference on Disarmament were present at the event. Over 100 people attended the event which included senior academics, students, international civil servants, representatives of the diplomatic community and members of the Indian diaspora.
The event helped in creating awareness about Dr. Ambedkar's contributions t not only as the founding father of the Constitution of India but also his contributions to the social justice and the originator of the concept of social insurance. Speaking on the occasion, Prof Dilip Menon, Director, CISA called for greater scholarly attention worldwide to studying Dr. Ambdekar, as a thinker, law maker and social and political crusader. This Conference in South Africa,had high resonance among the participants.
The Mission organised a Reception at Red Cross Hall, Oslo to celebrate 125th Birth Anniversary of Dr. B R Ambedkar on 14th April, 2016 from 1700-1900 hrs. About 150 invitees icluding Diplomatic Corps in Oslo, representatives from Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Trade, University of Oslo and Indian diaspora members attended the event. Ambassadors from Pakistan, Afghanistan and Myanmar were also present during the function. The ambassador delivered a Speech on 'Indian Constitution and Democracy'. Mr. Tore Schei, former Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of Norway was the 'Guest of Honour' and delivered a speech on 'Norway's Constitution and Judiciary'. A Sitar and Tabla recital was performed by an Indian diaspora group at the end of the function.
Mr. Tore Schei spoke highly of India's Constitution & Judiciary and his interactive experiences with Supreme Court of India and Delhi High Court during his study tour of the Indian judicial system in 2008. The participants in general were highly appreciative of India's Constitution and Democracy. Many of them also appreciated India's efforts to inform an international audience how the Indian Constitution was formulated; the pivotal role of Dr. Ambedkar and strengths of India's democracy.

Ambassador H.E. Shri Sujan R. Chinoy made the opening remarks followed by a key-note speech by Father Cyril Veliath, Professor at Sophia University. The other speakers at the event were Shri Milind Gudade, representative of Babasaheb Ambedkar International Association for Education, Japan (BAIAE) and Shri Sushant Godghate, representative of Ambedkar International Mission (AIM), Japan.
The Embassy of India had previously, in association with the Indian International School in Japan (IISJ) and Global Indian International School (GIIS) in Tokyo, organized an essay competition on the ‘Life of Dr. B.R Ambedkar’. Winners of this competition were felicitated at the event by the Ambassador. The students also read out brief excerpts from their essays at the event. A Quiz was also organized on the Life of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar and the Constitution of India. Audience, including children, enthusiastically participated in the Quiz, and the winners were felicitated by the Ambassador. The event concluded with light refreshments for the participants.

Ambassador of India, Dr. Mohan Kumar led floral tributes to portrait of Dr. Ambedkar. Prof. Christophe Jaffrelot, French political scientist and specialist on India and Prof. Jean Luc- Racine, Emeritus Director of Research at CNRS (Centre d’études de l’Inde et de l’Asie du Sud de l’EHESS) delivered key note speech on Dr. Ambedkar's contribution to Indian society and on the role of Constitution in a Parliamentary Democracy. On this occasion, Dr. Ambedkar's contribution to law, politics, sociology, education and social reforms were commemorated. Babasaheb’s immense contribution to the philosophy of India’s Constitution and to the constitutional jurisprudence was also reminisced by the speakers.
The key note address was followed by a lively interactive Q&A session with the speakers. Embassy officials, Indian diaspora, academics and civil society activists joined in the celebrations. A photo exhibition on several important events in the life of Dr. Ambedkar was also organised.

The Indian Embassy in Copenhagen celebrated the 125th Birth Anniversary of Dr.B.R. Ambedkar at the century old prestigious Asia House on April 14, 2016. Glowing tributes were paid to the social reformer, principal architect of the Indian Constitution and the great leader of modern India. The function was well attended that included representatives from Universities in Copenhagen, Foreign Ministry, business sector, Academia, Diplomatic Missions and Indian Associations in Denmark.
